Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos

While doing some preliminary Mexico wedding venue research, we found the all-inclusive Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos resort. We ended up choosing Hawaii for our wedding, but we still took a trip to Cabo for fun over 4th of July weekend with a few friends. Gina found a killer flight and hotel package deal through Volaris that we couldn’t say no to.

Resort

Nestled 20 minutes from the airport, the Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos is about halfway between downtown Cabo San Lucas and the Los Cabos airport. We booked a shuttle to and from the airport ahead of time through Transcabo.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were immediately impressed with the decor and ambiance. The driveway is gated for security and once you walk up the front steps you are in the open air lobby that looks out over the resort pools right into the ocean. Welcome drinks were available as we were checking in to put us in the right frame of mind for the weekend.

Room

The rooms were spacious and well maintained. We splurged and stayed in a swim-up room which was a unique experience and totally worth it. If it’s possible to get a swim-up room that connects to the adult pool go for that option. We had one that faced the main pools but was its own separate pool and didn’t connect to any of the bigger ones.

An added bonus with the swim-up rooms is that no children under 13 are allowed to stay in them so they are generally much quieter and splash free.

Pools

Not including the swim-up pools, there are 4 separate pools – adult, main, infinity, and kids (which is on the opposite side of the resort where the swim-up rooms and adult pool are). The adult pool is much more secluded and quieter but no beach views. It has a bar where you’ll find Mary cooking up some amazing beef tacos – these are not to be missed.

The infinity pool is right on the beach and has a swim-up bar which the adult pool didn’t have. You can rent cabanas in and around the pool as well as on the beach which looked nice, but we didn’t want to pay extra for those.

Food

The Hyatt Ziva had some of the better food we have tasted from an all-inclusive resort. There are several restaurants – all of which are different types of cuisine. All of the restaurants (excluding the bars and snack shacks) have a bit of a dress code which sounds like they mainly don’t want beachwear.

The room service food is good but we had a bad experience our first morning. It ended up taking 3 follow-up calls and over 90 minutes for our food to finally come without any explanation or apology. And the cherry on top was that our friends ordered after us and finished theirs way before we got ours.

If you are able to make it out of bed we recommend going to the buffet for breakfast anyway. The was a huge spread of delicious food and the service was excellent.

Activities

The resort also offered a myriad of activities but we can’t personally vouch for any of them because we spent most of our days “maximizing our all-inclusive value” between the adult pool bar and swim-up bar.

We did a few “off-campus” activities to check out a nearby oasis of a restaurant, nightlife in Cabo San Lucas, and the crazy place they call Mango Deck.

Wedding

Even though we didn’t end up choosing the Hyatt Ziva for our wedding, once we got there we agreed we easily could’ve done it there. It has everything you need. The resort is large with plenty of rooms, bars, lounges, restaurants, and pools. The all-inclusive was a great value with delicious food, good drinks, and great customer service (minus the room service mishap).

We caught the tail-end of a small wedding going down on the sand and it looked like a great time.

Recommendations

We highly recommend the Hyatt Ziva, but rooms aren’t cheap. Find yourself a package deal for ultimate value. Our deal was 3 nights in an upgraded swim-up room and round-trip airfare out of Tijuana for $650 per person. To put that in perspective, the swim-up rooms are normally $500 per night by themselves.
