Bachelorette Party in Charleston
Charleston is a Bachelor / Bachelorette party hot spot. Every place we went there was at least 3 different parties in sight. It’s a great location as the city is beautiful, there are plenty of activities, and the food and bar scene is phenomenal.
Where to Stay in Charleston
Charleston is a very historic city with a lot of old buildings. Some of the oldest buildings in the city were built in the 1700’s.
There are so many cute place so I highly recommend looking into renting a house here over a hotel.
We rented Jimmy’s place on AirBnB. (Get $40 off your first AirBnB stay here). The house was built in 1852, but the inside is all renovated and very nice. Porches here are referred to as the fancier Italian term, “piazza”. Our place had a nice double piazza.
Activities
Palmetto Carriage Tour
There are many different carriage tour companies available. We went with Palmetto Carriage Tour which is the oldest company.
No matter which tour you choose, you don’t know what route you’ll get. All carriages from all companies have to go through the city for a random draw for routes.
I can’t image there are any “bad” routes as every street has so many beautiful homes and buildings, and they’re all so unique.
The ride is about an hour. I’d recommend doing this at the beginning of your trip so you get the city history early on. It also can get very hot so it may be more enjoyable for you earlier in the morning.
Middleton Plantation
We bought a combo tour for the carriage ride and a plantation visit. We ended up running out of time and didn’t make it to the plantation, but the property looked very beautiful.
Folly Beach
If you want to visit a beach, Folly Beach is the one to go to.
Charleston City Market
The Charleston City Market is several blocks of inside and outside vendors. Walk through during the day, and then come back at night on weekends for an entirely different set of vendors. You’ll find unique hand crafted items, food and treats, and live music.
Waterfront Park
The Waterfront park is on the east side of the French Quarter. Here you’ll find the splash fountain, pineapple fountain, picturesque greenery and palm trees along the water, and a pier. Walk out on the pier for views of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge.
Pineapple Fountain
The iconic pineapple fountain is located in the Waterfront park. It’s a must for a group shot.
Rainbow Row
Rainbow Row is the iconic set of houses painted in different bright colors. This is the quintessential photo opp you must visit in Charleston!
Calhoun Mansion
You can buy tickets to tour the Calhoun Mansion. You can also walk through the garden area for free which is what we did.
White Point Garden and The Battery
White Point Garden is on the waterfront at the tip of Charleston. During the civil war it was used as a defensive seawall. You’ll find some cannons and monuments from that era.
The battery is known for the large estates located along the water.
Pink House
The pink house at 17 Chalmers St. is the 6th oldest building in South Carolina. It was built in 1712.
Philadelphia Alley
If you aren’t paying attention, you might miss Philadelphia Alley. Take a quick stroll through this historic alley that dates back to 1776.
Walk Around the City
You can’t go wrong with just walking up and down the streets taking in all the scenery.
Where to Eat in Charleston
Barsa
Barsa is a cute little tapas restaurant that was around the corner from where we were staying. It has an outdoor patio enclosed by green shrubbery walls, live music inside on Thursdays, and the food was delicious.
Stars
Stars is downtown on King St. It was a bit on the pricier side for dinner, but the food was good. There’s a rooftop bar for great city views. After dinner, the restaurant turns into a club with a DJ and dancing.
Oyster House
Oyster House is right by the Market, and a great place if you want seafood. I had the tasty Seafood a la Wappoo as you can see below. Get the Bacon Wrapped Stuffed Shrimp as an appetizer.
Eli’s Table
For breakfast we went to Eli’s Table and sat out on their cute little patio. This restaurant is also right near Poogan’s Porch which is another popular brunch spot.
The Daily
Around the corner from where we stayed was a little coffee and breakfast spot called The Daily. We went back again because it was so good. I got a green protein smoothie and a bacon english muffin sandwich which was so delicious.
Kilwin’s
On a hot day there’s nothing better than a good scoop of ice cream. Kilwin’s is right by the Charleston City Market.
Bitty and Beau’s
If you need a coffee break, stop by Bitty and Beau’s. The shop is run by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It’s a unique environment inside and excellent customer service!
Where to Drink and Dance
Republic
Republic is a standard club on King St. The layout wasn’t great, and felt more like a tight hallway around a bar. It also has an outdoor patio area.
Mynt
Mynt was a more fun club. There was more space to move and get our groove on. It also had a very cute and decorated patio out back that felt like an oasis.
Stars Rooftop
We went to Stars Rooftop after dark, but in daylight we heard it had great views. Downstairs, the restaurant transforms after dinner for dancing.
Henry’s Rooftop
Henry’s was a very cute rooftop. The rooftop had different rooms and 2 different levels. There was an inside and an outside and we were blown away by how good it looked.
More Charleston Rooftop Bars
Here are some other rooftop bars we didn’t go to but you could:
- The Rooftop at Vendue
- The Watch Rooftop Kitchen and Spirits
- Élevé at The Grand Bohemian Hotel
- The Pavilion Bar
- Uptown Social
- Pour Taproom
- Balao
- The Cocktail Club
Pro Tips
- Bring bug spray. Mosquitos love me, so once again my legs were under attack. I counted at least 30 bites. Not ideal, but not as bad as Bora Bora.
- So hot and so sweaty. Bring hats and sunscreen.
- Humidity – it’s real. Plan accordingly with your hair if needed.
