Best Travel Resources for International Trips
Sometimes you just don’t know where to start. Before booking your next trip, consider checking out some of our favorite travel resources that we use to help plan and book all our adventures.
1. Scott’s Cheap Flights
We cannot say enough good things about this newsletter. We booked non-stop roundtrip flights out of LAX to Barcelona for under $300 per person. If you don’t know where you want to go or are open for any destination, this is the best way to book your next trip.
The only downside is you might get sad seeing all the amazing deals come through that you pass on. Just remember, there will always be another deal! It’s free to join, but I highly encourage upgrading to the premium membership to get all the really good deals for less than $40 a year. We have the premium membership and that’s how we got our Barcelona deal. Sign up for Scott’s Cheap Flights here.
2. Dollar Flight Club
Another cheap flight newsletter we have a premium membership for is Dollar Flight Club. We see different deals come through from these two newsletters which is why we use both. More chances for cheap flights! With the hundreds of dollars you can save from booking just one flight, joining for $40/year is a no-brainer.
3. Google Flights
When you know where you want to go, Google Flights is an amazing tool to find the best flights. It’s also good to conduct research if you’re comparing different potential trips to take. You can search for one-way flights, roundtrips, or even multi-stop routes.
4. Momondo
Once you know the flights you want to book, head to Momondo if you want to get the absolute best prices. You’re booking through an online travel agency rather than directly through the airline so it’s possible you might experience some slight hiccups on occasion.
There are minor delays between agencies and the airline so it’s possible a fare may expire before they can confirm your ticket. And you may not get the exact seat you requested. If you can deal with those possibilities, the smaller online travel agencies like Momondo can be the cheapest way to book.
5. Travelzoo
Travelzoo is always a good resource to find package deals or vacations. We’ve only booked one hotel package deal through them once, but we’re always open to more!
6. US News
Before booking a trip, we always check the best time of year to go. We check for weather as well as shoulder seasons or low seasons that might be less crowded or less expensive. US News has great insight into best times to travel for most major destinations.
7. Google Sheets
Once we start planning a trip, we put everything in a Google Sheet. Flights, accommodations, activities, restaurants/bars, and any other important information about the country we need to know goes into one place.
Before departing, make sure you can access it offline or take screenshots on your phone so you have everything you need if you don’t have cell service or WIFI.
8. TripAdvisor
When we’re looking for activities to do in an area, we’ll conduct some preliminary research on TripAdvisor to brainstorm potentials. Once we find certain places or vendors we want to use, we’ll check out reviews here before booking anything.
9. Airbnb
When we travel we stay in all sorts of different places. We’ll stay in hostels, hotels, resorts, or rentals. We always look at Airbnb (Sign up with this link to get $40 off your first booking) first because we love staying in unique places and often find great deals. It’s also a bonus if you get access to a local who can help you out or give you great recommendations.
